- The card is valid until midnight on the day of validity.
- The card must be shown to the inspectors together with a valid identity document.
- The cards do not sell out, you can buy them when you arrive to Cinque Terre.

Do I have to validate the Cinque Terre Card?
The Cinque Terre Cards bought at the station (paper tickets) or online (e-tickets) come with date of validity and do not have to be validated. Only regional train tickets bought at the station (paper tickets) have to be validated.
Adding the Via dell'Amore to the Cinque Terre Card
If you have already purchased the Cinque Terre Card, you can buy the €10 supplement for the Via dell'Amore at the ticket booth near the station In Riomaggiore on the day, or at the Cinque Terre Info Points in all five villages.
Do I have to buy a Cinque Terre Treno MS Card?
No, but buying the card is a great option for anyone who wishes to travel by train back and forth between the villages during their visit. Whether you need a Cinque Terre Train Card or not, depends on how many journeys by train between the villages you intend to make. Anyway, if you plan to use the train at least twice in a day and also want to hike one of the chargeable coastal paths, you better buy a Cinque Terre Treno MS Card. Another benefit of this card is avoiding long lines to purchase train tickets during the crowded summer season.
Why do I have to pay for the footpaths?
We strongly encourage you to buy the Cinque Terre Card. The income obtained from the sales of the cards is reinvested in the National Park for maintenance of the hiking trails. This maintenance work keeps the National Park in good condition, ready for your visit.
Cinque Terre in winter
In the off-season, from November 3 until March 13, all hiking trails except Via dell'Amore are free. During this period the trains are running once or twice an hour between the five villages and a single train ticket costs around 3 euros for a journey between two villages. The Cinque Terre Train Card includes unlimited train travel and costs 14.80 euro per day during off-season.
Dogs on the train
Small dogs, cats and other pets that are kept in bags or carriers, no bigger than 70 x 30 x 50 cm, travel for free in first and second class on all the different types of trains in Italy.
A dog of any size can travel with a muzzle and leash in both first and second-class. In this case you will have to purchase a ticket at half the price of the regular fare or a Cinque Terre Treno MS Card for children.
Don't forget to bring with you an international passport with vaccination details, canine registry certificate and health booklet. For additional information, please ask before departure at the station ticket office.
Bicycles on the trains
On all regional trains in Liguria, even on those not marked with the special symbol, passengers are permitted to travel with a bicycle free of charge.
